Abstract

This report examines the situation of LESLLA learners in Germany by presenting estimates of their numbers and analyzing the extent to which language policies, curricula, and literacy courses address their specific needs. An overview of instructional methods employed in literacy courses as well as of research conducted on this group of adult immigrants is provided. The report concludes by identifying existing gaps and challenges and by outlining perspectives for future research.
